Frequently asked questions

Who can take part in the campaign?

Anyone aged 18–24 who lives in Oxfordshire. We welcome people of all genders, sexualities, body types, ethnicities, and backgrounds. No modelling or photography experience is needed — just a willingness to be involved. Friend groups and couples are encouraged.

What is the campaign for?

This is a photo campaign led by the NHS and Oxfordshire Sexual Health Services. It aims to make sexual health feel more normal, inclusive, and accessible. Your image could help others feel more confident, informed, and supported.

What will I be doing?

You’ll be part of a professional photo shoot in a small group of other participants, at well-known locations around Oxford (e.g. Radcliffe Camera, Cowley Road, cafés, parks). There may also be the option for individual portraits if you feel comfortable.

  • You’ll be fully clothed, wearing your own casual clothes (no visible brand logos please)
  • The shoot will take 4 hours
  • You will be guided by a friendly, professional photographer

Will I get anything in return?

Yes. Everyone who takes part will receive:

  • A set of professional portraits to keep and use
  • A certificate or letter of thanks for your CV or portfolio
  • The chance to be featured across posters, buses, clinics, social media, and other public platforms across Oxfordshire

Where will my photo be used?

Your photo may appear in:

  • Posters at bus stops, clinics, and universities
  • Digital screens on buses and around Oxford
  • Oxfordshire Sexual Health Service and NHS social media channels
  • Internal health promotion materials used by the county

Your name and personal details will not be published.

What messaging will be used alongside my photo?

The campaign is aiming to encourage and empower young adults and students to take care of their sexual health during Freshers Week.

This will include messaging about using condoms and staying protected during sex, taking regular STI tests, using PrEP (a pill to protect against HIV) and advice on how to access sexual health help or guidance from your local sexual health service (Oxfordshire Sexual Health Service).

Messaging will include one main strap-line, and a call-to-action (for example “Free condoms available”).

Will I need to sign anything?

Yes. Before taking part, you’ll be asked to read and sign an NHS photography consent form, which clearly explains how your image may be used. Nothing will be shared without your agreement.

What if I feel nervous about being photographed?

That’s completely okay – many people do. You’ll never be asked to do anything you’re uncomfortable with. Group photos are the main focus, and solo portraits are optional.

You’re also welcome to bring a friend, guardian, or support person to the shoot.

Will I be paid or reimbursed?

We are working on offering travel reimbursements or small thank-you gift cards, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet. You’ll still receive professional portraits and a certificate for your CV.

What if I have accessibility needs?

We want everyone to feel welcome.

Let us know what you need in the additional comments of the registration form – we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

You can contact us on our main phone line: 01865 231231 or by adding an additional comment to the registration form. A member of our team will be happy to help.
