Online testing (self-test kits)

Who can use this service?

You can order a kit online if:

Our kits are suitable for everyone but, if you have any worries, it is always best to book a telephone appointment to discuss these before you order a kit. We can also offer guidance as to which test is most accurate for you if you do not identify as the gender to which you were born.

For under 18sUnder 18 or don’t otherwise meet the criteria above?

How to order an STI self-test kit

You can order a kit online using your Personal Health Record (PHR):

For more information, see about your Personal Health Record.

Self-test kits aren’t suitable for everyone. If you would like testing to be done in a clinic instead, please book a telephone appointment:

What tests can I order online?

Our kits can test you for chlamydia, gonorrhoea and HIV. They can also test you for syphilis, but may not be suitable if you’ve been treated for syphilis before. More information about these infections is available below:

Please only order the tests that you are going to do – your results may be delayed if you do not complete and return all of your tests.

Been treated for syphilis before?

If you want another syphilis test, our kits may not be right for you. It takes more blood to test for syphilis if you’ve had treatment for it in the past – the sample returned via the kit may not provide enough blood for us to give you a result.

It may be more suitable for you to come into clinic for a test. Please book a telephone appointment to arrange this:

How do I do my own tests?

All kits are supplied with clear instruction leaflets. You can also view online versions of the leaflets below and a guide on which tests to use for non-cisgender individuals. If you need any help or advice, please contact us.

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea testing

HIV and syphilis testing

Some patients find taking their own blood tricky. Before you start, please watch our video guide (below) and read through the blood sample instructions.

Is there a limit to the number of tests I can request?

Yes. It is important to understand when you should be testing; this will depend on your sexual history.

You will not be able to request a kit online more than once every 4 months. If you do need to test more frequently than this, please book a telephone appointment so we can arrange this for you:

When will I get my results?

Please see test results – self-test kits.
